What is the Big Moo Canoe?
The Big Moo Canoe is a fun, easy, and effective way to raise awareness and donations for Heifer International.

In its third year, Rob Bean, Chief Paddling Officer, plans to take the event to a new level with the assistance and support of the community. The event has both a Northern Colorado and a national outreach component to it and the project aims to help families in need, regionally and globally. The main events include; a fun canoeing day for families in Northern Colorado, and participation in the Missouri River 340 canoe race. In the MR340 Rob plans to join with other like-minded paddlers to raise donations while spreading awareness as they cross the entire state of Missouri, by water, next July.

Rob BeanThe Big Moo Canoe was originally developed in 2007 by Rob Bean of Fort Collins, CO. His intention was to help Heifer International by paddling his canoe 250 miles over a three-day period, along a beautiful stretch of the North Platte River in Wyoming, and raise $5,000 for the charity. That effort was a huge success for Heifer and raised donations of $8,000 from individuals and companies in 15 states, while introducing many more to the mission of Heifer International. Through this experience, Rob discovered many more people wanted to "get on board," so he vowed to help them get started. Since that first paddle stroke in Wyoming until now, the event concept has grown, and we're helping individuals and groups all over the country develop their own versions of the Big Moo Canoe. Please help Rob as he mixes his passion for ultra-marathon canoe racing with his dedication to spreading the word about Heifer International and Food Bank for Larimer County. Get involved today and spread the "mooos!"

The Big Moo Canoe is a volunteer-driven project, officially sanctioned by Heifer International.

Rob Bean - Chief Paddling OfficerRob Bean: Chief Paddling Officer

Rob is an ordinary, outdoorsy kind of guy who loves paddling and helping others. He lives in Fort Collins with his wife, Tracey, and two wonderful children, Megan and Lucas. He’s originally from Ohio, where his passion for paddling took hold as a teenager. And you name it – canoeing, kayaking, sculling, rafting – Rob was doing it. Even during the winter months.

During the day, Rob is the interactive director at Burns Marketing Communications (www.burnsmarketing.com). And when he’s not working or spending time with his family, he’s training for The Big Moo Canoe.
