   Profile of hope

Heifer International - Urban Agriculture in New York

A 13-year-old East New York Farms youth member, Joemi Regalado, poses with lettuce at the project's community garden.

Joemi Regalado says, "I like to work at the market and sell stuff. That's the best part of the project. Everything leftover from the market we give to the church but we are also allowed to take some food home to our families. Everyone likes to buy things from our garden because they see where it is grown and know where it came from. This makes me proud."

Join the Big Moo Canoe for Heifer International at the MR340

For the MR 340 we are developing a fun, "loosely affiliated" team of 10 of more MR340 participants, who would be willing to become goodwill ambassadors for Heifer International. Participating as a "Team Heifer" member will not affect your MR 340 logistical plans whatsoever, only add deeper meaning to your effort.

Sign-up Now

We hope each participant would:

  • Raise a minimum of $250 in donations in advance of the race
  • Meet together at the beginning and end for a team photo
  • Be a goodwill ambassador for Heifer throughout your participation

We will provide you the following to support your efforts:

  • A paddler profile on the moocanoe.com web site and Facebook page with a link to your personal donation page at Team Heifer
  • An announcement of your participation through our social media channels and inclusion in our press releases about the MR 340 event
  • A FREE pair of Vibram FiveFinger shoes for your efforts

Who is Heifer International?
If you are not familiar with Heifer International, they are an organization that sends livestock and farm training to families in need around the world. They have been in existence since the late 40's and their pragmatic approach (send a cow not a cup) to ending poverty has transformed the communities in which they work. At the core of their program is the idea of "Passing on the gift". Each family makes a promise to pass along an offspring and the training they received to a neighbor in need, doubling the impact in the community. On average each Heifer family passes along six animals (far more than required) and so your participation can help make a huge difference in the lives of families around the world. Read more about Heifer at their web site.

I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Rob
