Heifer Children's Challenge

Get your child involved in helping raise donations for Heifer International through the Big Moo Canoe. We have developed a simple six-week challenge program to help get you started. Each week focuses on a different Heifer ideal and will help your child, help other children around the globe.

Choose a goal and get started

Week 1 - Let's put some hope in the boat

Over the next six weeks, please help your children achieve a weekly goal to earn an offering to donate to Heifer International through the Big Moo Canoe. Heifer helps families achieve self reliance and freedom from poverty through gifts of livestock and farm training.

The challenge: For this week's challenge, encourage your child to help with a task in the kitchen. Have them help with the dishes, set and clear the table or help prepare a meal. Have them put their donation in a piggy bank.

Week 2 - Helping others, building community

Since 1944, Heifer International has spread hope, opportunity, and a program that teaches the importance of people helping people, by working together to solve community problems.

The challenge: For this week's challenge, encourage your child to work with a sibling, friend or parent to do a cooperative project like clean each others rooms or help prepare a meal. Have them put their donation in a piggy bank.

Week 3 - Protecting nature

Heifer International stresses the need to protect our planet and helps communities farm with sustainable practices.

The challenge: For this week's challenge, encourage your child to help an adult with an outdoor task. Have them pull weeds in the yard, clean flower beds, plant spring flowers, plant a family garden with you, or care for the plants in your home. Have them put their donation in a piggy bank.

Week 4 - Caring for others

Heifer International helps build strong communities who care for one another through shared goals and effort.

Week 5 - A healthy home

Heifer International helps families develop an income source so they can improve their health, build a better home, and support their community.

The challenge: For this week's challenge, encourage your child to help an adult with tasks that keeps your home clean and healthy. Have them dust, sweep, clean a bathroom, or straighten the garage. Have them put their donation in a piggy bank.

Week 6 - Passing on the Gift

Did you know that, on average, families participating in Heifer projects pass along six animals when they are only required to give one?

The challenge: For this week's challenge, encourage your child to tell more than one person about their efforts for helping Heifer families. Have them write a letter, make a phone call to a family member or grandparent, or take your child to a few neighbors' houses to tell them about Heifer and ask for a donation. Have them put their donation in a piggy bank.
