About Heifer International
Heifer's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.
"The Big Moo Canoe" is a vehicle to raise awareness for Heifer International and to solicit charitable donations that will support Heifers effective and life-changing programs around the world. We have big challenges globally (poverty, HIV/AIDS, famine, war and the effects of a changing environment) and many times we feel helpless to make a "real difference". Join the team and show your support for Heifer Today!
Heifer envisions...
A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.
Heifer's strategy is...
To "pass on the gift." As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
Heifer's History...
This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Today, millions of families in 128 countries have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.
Since 1944, Heifer International has helped 8.5 million families in more than 128 countries move towards greater self-reliance through the gift of livestock and training in environmentally sound agriculture. The impact of each initial gift is multiplied as recipients agree to "pass on the gift" by giving one or more of their animal's offspring, or the equivalent, to another in need.
Heifer International is a member of InterAction the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian non-governmental organizations, and of GlobalImpact.
