Heifer International
Heifer International's mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. Since 1944, Heifer has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. Heifer is currently working in 50 countries, including the U.S., to help families and communities become more self-reliant. For more information, visit www.heifer.org or call 1-800-696-1918.
Impact: Since its inception, Heifer has helped more than 10 million families in 128 countries move toward greater self-reliance. Heifer's Hope for the Future Campaign will also help one million more families receive animals and training by 2010. Committed to gender equity, Heifer ensures that women share in the benefits of training, ownership, and income, and that projects enable fathers to farm, rather than seek low-paying, seasonal employment.
A recognized leader: Heifer has received numerous awards and recognition for our work including the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian prize, the world's largest humanitarian award. Former president Jimmy Carter said Heifer "has inspired hope in hungry communities, where the gift of one animal can bring health, prosperity, and peace." Former president Ronald Reagan also awarded Heifer the 1986 President's Award for Voluntary Action, and President George H.W. Bush awarded the Presidential End Hunger Award to Heifer in 1990.
Gifts to Heifer International are tax deductible and help fund Heifer's total program, unless designated otherwise. Federal employees may designate gifts to Heifer through payroll deduction by entering CFC #12079. Heifer International is a 501(c)(3) organization.
